Ice Cream Symmetry

I made this illustration using the rule of thirds. I placed the ice cream cone in the bottom intersection and balanced it by placing the text in the opposite top intersection making an asymmetrical balance.  The ice cream cone is heavier in the bottom so to lighten it up I chose a thin, clean font for the text.  

Thailand

When I took this picture I didn't realize that it follows the rule of thirds, but now I understand that this is what makes it so visually appealing. The Sky, the boats and the sand all broke down perfectly on a grid. On top of that, I put text in the upper grid and pulled it to the right to draw the focus to it as you look at the ships. I decided to just keep my text black and white because I wanted the colors from the picture to stand out. I also changed the font on adventures so something that I felt matched what it was trying to say, It feels daring and exciting to me.

Time To Get Away?

For this image, I wanted the two main objects (the little girl and the text) to be on opposite corners, to create the rule of thirds spacing. I think rule of thirds is very effective in this image as it brings the eye from the girl, to the sun, to the text. The image seems to bring a very peaceful vibe, which is exactly what I was going for. The rule of thirds is especially effective with the sunset backdrop, the spacing gives so much space to that beautiful sunset.

Shred or Die Composition

For this assignment, I used the rule of thirds to size of the photo. The top right corner of the photo is centered on my head and making it follow that rule. Since the photo is full of colors I decided to go with black for the font so that it would sick out against the grey. I used bold and caps to get teh attention of those looking at it.

Composition/Grids

Using the rule of thirds (and the grid), I first started out the image by placing the man to the right side. I had to crop the picture in a way that moved him to the side as oppose to right in the middle. It made the picture more interesting, but out of balanced. To balance it out, I added the text. Using the grid, I positioned the text directly where two lines intersected. It helped tremendously so that you didn't feel like you were falling over. The darkness in the bottom left hand corner also brings the picture into balance as it "grounds" the picture and makes it stable. I used a simple font so that more emphasis was put into the meaning of the words instead of the words themselves. I chose white for two reasons. 1) to bring out the lightness in the picture and bring more contrast to balance and 2) because it was simple and easy to read. 

Elephant

I used rule of thirds to split the text from the image. I also balanced the dark text with the light image to equal it out. 

Bienvenidos

This is a picture from my honeymoon. I didn't think about it when I took it, but it follows the rule of thirds almost perfectly. The text Bienvenidos sits right on the bottom third line. The light clouds in the top left balance out the blue sky in the right.
