Self-Portrait

This photo is extremely captivating to me. The surface answer to why is because I love reading a physical book with real pages. However, there is so much more to this photo that draws me in. I love the dust coming off of the cover. Books made out of paper are verging on a thing of the past and the dust in this photo shows that paper books are not used so often anymore. The dust is also exciting to me because it means this is an old book that has either never been read or hasn't been read in a very long time. It is exciting to know what is on the inside of those pages. I love the hands covered in dust and chipped fingernail polish. This is a real person with their own story. I also love how the photo is black and white. To me, black and white photos bring it back to the basics and make the photo simple. I love that the fading away of paper books is shown through the black in white in that both are becoming old. To finish, I love that the book is crack open and dust is coming out of the middle of the book. To me, this looks as though the story is trying to whisper its way out of the pages. This is one of my favorite photos.
