Laura Coalwell's Picture Book

I learned that sometimes I like the process of creating something as much or more than the actual creation. I think it's therapeutic to sit on the floor surrounded by a bunch of random materials and make something out of it.

I like the little flaps, because they tell the rest of the story. And when I was little, I loved pop up books or the ones with the little "pull" tabs.

Brianne Hepworth photo book preview

I wanted to make a photo book that wasn't a typical photo book. I think this represents me well because I don't think my story fits well onto a plain photo book. So I used the concept of postcards to share my photos. A lot of changes and things that happened growing up have made me who I am today. As I was thinking about what photos to use for the book, I realized that I have such a different perspective on these moments in my life compared to when each photo was taken.

I decided to create postcards illustrating my perspective on life when I was younger compared to my perspective now. On one side of the postcard is a zoomed in piece of the photo, which symbolized my small view on the situation at the time. On the back I wanted to show what each postcard of my life has taught me now. In a way, it is the idea of "what I wish I could have told myself back then."

Katie's Pages

I chose to use my book as a pretty basic sum-up of who I am. What I enjoy, who I love, and what's important to me. All things that you would figure out after getting to know me. I chose to use a lot of brightly colored photographs and a collage style layout for each page. I decided to use multiple pages on each page because I felt it used the space up in the most interesting way.

Kristen's Picture Book

Here's some sneak peeks of my book so far.

So, this is a scrapbook. No, I'm not a scrapbooker. But the company I interned at this summer paid me with lots of cutsie paper and stickers, so I figured I'd put the stuff to use on this book. It turned out to be fun, but trying to sum yourself up in ten pages isn't easy. So the ten things I picked for Cutri to know about me are pretty simple facts about myself.

The design element I find most interesting was the different colors of paper, letters, embellishments, paint, and pictures I had to work with. One thing I learned about myself is that I like things to be aesthetically pleasing. I spent a lot of time planning the layout of the different elements on each page and figuring out how the colors and patterns would work together.

Feliz = happiness

Feliz is my favorite word in Spanish, so I decided to name my book after the word. It was hard to narrow down my list of things that make me happy/describe me to just 10 things, but I made it work.

These are just snippits of two pages that are within the covers of my picture book. This assignment made me feel like I was in fifth grade again. :]
