Seeing the Unseen in Downtown Provo

I have lived in Provo for two years, and yet, downtown Provo continues to reveal new treasures every time I walk its blocks. There are many things both fantastic and simple that just happened to always avoid my attention on previous visits, even when they are sometimes out in plain sight. On the corner of 500 W and Center I found a purple VW Van parked in the gravel advertising a flower shop just next door. Next I found a store I had never noticed before with tables, chairs, and even fence slats that were colored with a grand assortment of bright hues that easily catch the eye, but somehow had never caught my eye before that moment. I wondered how I never noticed the mural of an ocean and dolphins rich in vibrant paint. It truly is a piece of art. Garbage is not very attractive and garbage cans are very simple, but walking close to Zeke's I saw for the first time in my life, bright red garbage cans. The cans were not the normal green, black, or even blue, but an unexpected red. Finally, as I stepped away from center street into the bordering neighborhood area, I spied an uncommon joy that brought back memories of my youth. A small tree house had been constructed with an amusing sign that read "Dead Man's Tree." It looked just like one I had helped to build when I was barely even nine years old. Seeing the unseen during this trip has truly opened my eyes and helped me to realize how much more exciting the world is if I just pay more attention to my surroundings and take in something new every day.
