I am always interested in the people I see who are sucked into their devices and aren't fully present in the conversation or in the moment in which they are living. As human beings, we are really good at isolating ourselves from the people around us. I wanted to take pictures of people I saw using their phones and the solitary confinement they put themselves in.
I like how the subject of this image (the girl on her phone) looks almost like an accident. The scenery of the trees and the mountains is beautiful, but just like the girl in the picture, it is hard to notice if you're glued to the phone's screen.
The washed out look brings more focus to the phone user here. What I love is the people walking in pairs aren't on devices, but are in motion. This girl is confined and standing still against the wall to bring contrast.
Just like the prior photo, this person on the phone looks almost like a third wheel who got left behind and isn't present in the moment. Recognizing the subject would be difficult unless one is paying attention.
The rocky path shows more isolation.
This is a classic image. Somebody posted up on their phone while the world moves on around them. On we move without interaction, just one step in front of the next, no consideration to the context or setting of the scene.
The irony... I was reviewing the pictures on my camera when I looked up and realized it looked as if I was using my phone in the shadow. This is the most scenery people get when they are busy texting, tweeting, checking email, etc... the boring sidewalk!
A very interesting story line! My favorite is the second picture with the girl in the beanie in the background on her phone. The positioning of her farthest back and capturing closest to the camera the other people who are continuing with their day makes the photo perfect for your story.
