What's even more interesting is that both of these articles were found by just simply typing in "mormons" in a google search. I didn't add anything about being gay or homosexuality. Because of this single story it makes the world look down upon mormonism. Being seen as a community who cannot be tolerant of gay people won't help bring people to the faith. No one wants to be a part of something that has a hate attached to it. Whether or not articles are positive or negative to homosexuality, the fact that they come up in a basic search about mormonism is alarming.
I am LDS, and I really hate this stigma. I have very many friends who are gay and they are my friends. Some people in the LDS church are intolerant and behave horribly and make comments that are completely inappropriate, but labeling a complete church into one category that is so negative is so one sided and is a single story. I hope that at some point we can grow past this and no longer have this as characteristic of being mormon.
