Assignment - semiotic analyses on bull statue
1. what is the signifier?
The bronze bull statue in a public location (a park) , Wall Street in Manhattan. its called the
charging bull.
2. What does it signify?
A bull is a symbol of strength power immovability. It a a leader of a group. it is dangerous and something to be cautious of. it is leaning back ready to charge and in a aggressive stance, much like that of wall street where its a extremely competitive market place where stocks are being traded and the most tanasious and furious succeed.
3. What specifically supports your analyses?
I first thought of the running of the bulls and how ferocious and dangerous they were and that they are fast and strong. I've also sent them on a ranch and how they lead the group of cows and protect them. It is a considered a major feat to lasso them ride them or run away from them.
it being in wall street I've seen movies of how fast past and cut thought the traders are there and it seems like the bull statue is a perfect place to depict the energy and attitude that one must have to survive there.
