Gestalt-What we see when we read.

Gestalt: What We See When We Read a Book
The first Gestalt principle I am playing with is Figure/Ground because there are two images built on top of each other--the eye focuses on the picture on the background because it has more color and is more interesting. Afterwards, the viewer sees the lines on the paper that are used to separate each image and realizes that the lines create a lined paper look. This is not a piece of lined paper--yet the blue lines that separate the different elements of the page give it the appearance of such.

The second principle exemplified here is Closure. Each line breaks up the photo and does not allow the viewer to see what is behind it--yet the brain fills in the blank spot and the viewer sees a complete photo.

Finally, Similarity with the use of Color also plays an important role in this image-but in a different way. While grouping elements together is not as prominent, the groupings of color separate the image from the dark writing text. Similar colors allow the viewer to group based off of tone--thus the text and image, while directly on top of each other, are viewed as separate elements.
