Gestalt Theory
This is from a picture I took in the BRMB, advertising for Wallaroo Media. It uses the Gestalt principles of proximity and closure. We tend to group objects together that are in the same proximity (a shadow of a kangaroo head and a bowtie = a kangaroo wearing a bowtie). We think it is wearing a bowtie because it makes sense that the second shape would be a bowtie. It could be a piece of candy or a small hourglass, but that would not make sense in context with the kangaroo head. The image follows the "closure" principle because the kangaroo has no facial features. Our eyes still perceive a kangaroo head because we recognize the ears and the head shape.
