SELF-PORTRAIT
THE GRABBER
This is a photograph of Lake Powell that has been painted over in Adobe Photoshop. It grabs me because I know it's a real scene and from the periphery it looks like a real scene but when you focus in on it you see the brush strokes that have smeared the colors into a painting looking portrait. The painted effect makes this scene more attractive and timeless than the original because it puts the colors and composition in the realm of art, and not just photography, which is art, too. When we see paintings, we see art and we think of paintings as art. However, we do not always see photography as art. Therefore, by knowing what the original of this picture looks like, it helps me see the original photograph as art, and not just a photograph.
