self portrait

There are a few reasons why this picture absolutely grabbed me. To start, it is hard to look away when I see something that is so culturally different than what I am used to. So many questions come to mind: Is this just a casual swim? Are they searching for food? Is this a bath? He is wearing normal clothes so we can assume that it is in a poorer part of the world and he seems to be pretty comfortable so maybe this is a daily activity? I love the diagonal line of the water that goes across the image, its grabs your attention and adds artistic value. There are so many balancing parts to this picture and it is pleasing to the eye. The top of the elephants head and the mainland serve as two balancing points which directs your attention to the man. I love to travel and seeing this makes me want to know everything about this shot. I also love color contrast of the deep ocean green/blue against the pale sky. Even the clouds are perfect. I wish I could have a day to sit with this cute man and learn everything
about his life.
