Self Portrait

This photograph is part of a collection shot by French photographer, Sherif Elhage, entitled "From the Ground Up." I love it because at first glance, I was confused by what I was looking at. The bright colors were a bit confusing because bright colors are not often associated with tall buildings. Once I was able to discern what the photo was of, I was fascinated by just how small it made me feel. I found myself sucked into the image and I felt as though I was surrounded by buildings towering over me. It also provides a perspective that often goes unnoticed. While we are in the moment, how often do we take a moment to enjoy the view found upward? For me, it is not very often. Obviously, the sky is what is always above us, but this photographer shows that the view of the sky can change depending on what you are surrounded by. He shows the sky as a bright "X" that conquers the center of this photo. Instead of the stock image of blue skies with puffy clouds or grey skies with rain or lightning, it is simply a bright light shining through the breaks in the buildings.
