As I sat in the HFAC, I noticed the beautiful art on the walls, the symmetry of the building, and the style of the people that walk through it. To me, it appears that the students of the HFAC are either well put together, or absolutely do not care about their appearance at all. While I focused on the people of the HFAC, my friend, an art major, focused on the art on the walls and was critiquing it. While we both were sitting in almost the same spot, her paper was filled with things she noticed about the paintings, and mine was filled with how crazy some of the people looked!
Now this made me feel mean, but it taught me a greater point: we search for things that spike our interest. I have never found art interesting; not even the majestic beauty of being on top of the tallest mountain in the continental United States could capture my attention for more than five minutes. But, i could sit at a zoo and watch animals, or in a mall people watching for a very long time. While my friend is the opposite. She loves nature, and analyzing art. This taught me in an affective way that we see what we are interested in. My friend didn't even notice how weird some of the people dressed! Probably because she is one of them... :)
