Those guys that go to the gym everyday. What tools! Those guys that are muscular and they know it. What DBs! "The Tool" is a very prominent character in today's culture. We see these guys as dudes that only care about themselves, they are ripped, and arrogant. They go to the gym daily, and it's their number one priority. Their shirts are often too tight, and they get all the girls. We look at them as a mindless bunch that all hang together until they pick a girl to make out with that night.
These guys love themselves and want everyone to know it. They have the selfies of them with their shirts off, and for some reason that instagram picture has more likes than a picture of a monk sharing a rice bowl with a tiger. We all hate these guys.
These pictures represent how society as a whole feels about these guys. They are uncreative, self-obsessed, and arrogant. The guys from "Jersey Shore" are great examples of tools. They insist they must tan and go to the gym everyday, so that they look their best. We see people like the guys in the bottom picture walk into the gym, and we know immediately, they are tools. Why do we hate them so much?
Deep down, these are just normal guys that work hard at one hobby, their body. It just so happens that this hobby is VERY rewarding in many aspects of life. There are many guys that just like working out, and taking care of themselves, and are automatically classified as tools before we even hear them open their mouths. Many guys that care about themselves are shunned by other, average guys, and some girls that are afraid they will just be used.
Again, we all hate them. They are an arrogant bunch of ripped guys that believe themselves to be God's gift to the earth. However, this single story of "The Tools" isn't always correct. We should always try and learn more about people and their interests.
Excellent point! I am definitely guilty of having this perception of men. I agree; you really have to get to know a person before you can assume what they are like.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm impressed that you picked such a unique and creative minority group. I never would have thought of this. Also, this very well written and entertaining to read. Great job!
This post definitely made me think twice about people I dub as "tools" by default. I'm often guilty of judging these people too quickly! I'm officially going to work on that.
