- Bronze statue of a Bull
- The Bull looks angry and ready to charge
- You can see the Bull's rib cage, but the rest of his body has immense muscle
- Skyscrapers surround the Bull
- The Bull is set on stone
- There are two streets on either side of the Bull
- People are taking pictures of the Bull
- The head of the Bull looks lighter than the end of him
2. Signify
- symbolizes power, sturdiness and strength
- shows that it is ready to charge and fight in order to survive (I'm thinking of a bull fight)
- the material used shows that it is lasting, it is firm and the elements are not going to "wash" it away
- As it is set in the financial district and close to Wall St, it speaks of financial competition and how the district will charge on and prosper despite hard times
3. Analysis
After doing some minor research of the statue, I found that it was designed by Arturo Di Modica in 1989. It was shortly after the the 1987 stock market crash and people were looking for some hope. As a Christmas gift, Modica set up the statue near Wall St. to show the people a sign of hope.
This story supports my analysis, because Modica wanted to tell people that they can get out of the crash. He wanted to symbolize that the financial district is strong and powerful. This may be a hard time, but the Bull/Wall St. is ready to fight back in order to survive. The bronze material used speaks to how the stock market is strong and sometimes it will crash. However, the sturdy material or the sturdy district will be able to take on these hard times and still last. It will take more than a storm to bring down Wall St.
