Semiotics of the Charging Bull

Signifier: It is a bull about to charge, located on wall street.

Signifies: The state of a rising stock market, acting decisively, and the speed with which fortune can change.

Analysis: Because this bull is on Wall Street it leads to an association with the stock market where bull markets are a term for a rising stock market. Also the bull, a famous animal in history, may remind one of the Mycenaean culture where there is a famous fresco of a charging bull which a man must leap over. This leads one to a connection between a charging bull and the need for decisive action. Within the context of economics on Wall street the symbol for the need for decisive action is confirmed. Also because of the stance of the animal with its tense muscles ready for speed, it can be a reminder of the quickness by which the stock market can change.
