The Song is a movie about a musician who is struggling to make it into the music world until he meets rose and they are married. His love for her inspires him to write a song that gets him famous, but with fame come temptations. The musician is quickly pulled into the world of drugs, alcohol and extra-marital affairs. This picture really says it all.

First, let’s start with the musician’s wife, Rose. Rose is wearing a light colored, almost white, modest dress. The dress and its style denote modesty and purity. She is also wearing a blue jean jacket. Blue jeans are symbolic of the traditional American way, including faith in God, honesty, family and hard work. Rose exemplifies all of those as a faithful wife and mother. Rose’s hair is blond, but naturally so, connoting authenticity. A light shines on her face (even though the light source of the picture is coming from the opposite direction, perhaps indicating a connection or focus on the Divine or on God. Rose is also holding onto her husband with both hands, denoting a fierce loyalty and love to him. She has a small modest necklace that adds to her aura of purity and goodliness.

Now for Shelby, the temptress. Shelby stands a distance behind Jed, the musician, and his wife. She is half hidden, but clearly on Jed’s side of the photo and looking in Jed’s direction. Her location in the photo connects her to Jed, but she is also hidden denoting something secretive about her or her relationship with Jed. Her clothing, nail polish and tattoo are black, with some red accents denoting mystery, passion and also a distance from God. Her posture is not nearly as wholesome as that of Rose, she stands with legs apart and hip cocked, an enticing and attractive pose. She is the image of a temptress. Her bracelets are also an indication of her sexual availability, as many bracelets are frequently associated with prostitutes. Instead of holding onto Jed she is holding herself, denoting a selfish focus on self, perhaps a lack of concern for others.

They symbolism associated with Jed, is the most complex of the three. Jed’s black and red shirt coordinate perfectly with Shelby’s clothing and tattoo, connecting him to her. This article of clothing cover’s his heart. Meaning that his passion points him toward Shelby. He also has a tattoo, connecting him further to Shelby. However, Jed is also wearing blue jeans, and he is smiling and holding hands with Rose. This connects him back to Rose. It is clear from his facial expression that he does love Rose, and he is angled toward her, denoting what his real focus is on, though his passion may lead him in another direction.
