Wall Street Bull

The Signifier: A bull statue in the middle of a city. The bull seems to be made of some form of bronze and is very large.

What it signifies: Named by its artist as the "Charging Bull," it is also known to many as the "Wall Street Bull" or "Bowling Green Bull." It sits on the sidewalk near Wall Street in Manhattan, New York. It was made to symbolize the "aggressive financial optimism and prosperity" of the American economy. It serves as an icon for the entire wall street and its stock market, and people seem to think about and understand this symbolism just by looking at it. In a good economy, this bull symbolizes success and triumph. It acts as an iconic image for happiness and wealth, appearing to be strong and successful. In a failing economy, or in a recession such as our nation has witnessed recently, the bull symbolizes an attitude of determination and a dedication to not give up, but to push forward despite challenging circumstances.

What supports that:
The giant bull seems to be a very large, strong bull and its face looks intimidating and fierce. It also looks as if it were frozen right in the middle of a large, forceful movement, with its head leaning towards one side.
