Gestalt Principles are Everywhere

I was flipping through a magazine, trying to get ideas of which Gestalt principles I could use for my assignment and I came to this ad. It is an ad for Chanel lipstick. The way the advertisement is laid out points viewers directly to the model's lipstick, even though her whole face takes up more of the picture. This exemplifies the Gestalt principle of continuation and is an effective way to draw the audience's
eyes to the product they are trying to sell.

My own design represents two Gestalt principles: continuation and similarity.

1. Continuation: Since my design is made up entirely by arrows, it takes on a natural form of continuation. The viewers' eyes are automatically going to be shifted toward the top of the page rather than the bottom because of the direction of the arrows and the way they are laid out. This can be a very effective way to get your audience drawn to the product or principle you are trying to sell or illustrate.

2. Similarity: My design is made up of all arrows, which illustrates the principle of similarity. They are all the same shape but each row is differentiated by the color represented in each line. This can be effective in grouping similar things together when advertising, writing, organizing, etc., because it is so well-received by the audience since it is easy for them to understand.
