Closure

Without the concept of closure, digital numbers of any kind wouldn't have existed in the 90’s.  We all had those alarm clocks that could make any from 0 to 9 with 6 straight lines.  However, every number has wholes in it, meaning our mind must feel in the gap.

Like the digital numbers, graffiti completely banks on the notion of closure.  Because graffiti prints are made by cutting wholes in a piece of paper, figures and shapes cannot be closed.  I created this print of Audrey Hepburn to explore how closure could allow our mind to fill in the gabs of a figure.  Although the image is not a continuous, connected shape, we group it all together to form a picture in our minds.
