Gestalt

After seeing the optical illusion on the assignment keynote, I couldn't help but think of the cover on one of my favorite coffee table books. I think this image is super creative- I love it. Using a combination of closure and and continuation, the eye is able to put together a picture of Snow White out of nothing but leaves, a butterfly, and some blossoms from a vine. 

For my own design, I decided to experiment with the idea of similarity and closure (although I think it also uses proximity). One of my favorite brands is Nike, so I repeated the swoosh symbol multiple times on a blank template. Next, I deleted some to complete a space where a larger 'swoosh' could be seen. While it's not perfect (it was hard!) I think it's interesting that your eye knows that something should be there, so it fills in the blanks.
