1. The bull is the signifier. It is a bronze sculpture and is very large in stature. It is known as the "Charging Bull" or the "Wall Street Bull." It is standing in Bowling Green Park which is near Wall Street.
2. The bull is a symbol of aggressive financial optimism and prosperity. It also symbolizes how strong the American people are. It is on its back legs so it is ready to charge. It represents the stock markets in NYC on Wall Street.
3. The Charging Bull was placed in front of the stock exchange building after the 1987 stock market crash. The bull symbolizes the "strength and power of the American people." The artist put the bull in that certain location in order to show New York that no matter what happens to them, they will always come back stronger and more powerful. No one can put America down for long. The bull shows that Americans will always be fighting and charging to a better future. The crash brought people down, but the bull was able to show them they could fight through it and show up victorious. This continues to be true today. No matter what position America is in economically, Americans always have a positive outlook and believe they can conquer anything. The bull gives Americans hope and they take that and can achieve great heights with it.
