Gestalt Assignment:
For this Gestalt Assignment I chose the concepts of
similarity and continuation for my BYU pride ad. Aside from the BYU logo, I
chose similarity for all the school logos for the background. The school logos are
all the same shape and are evenly aligned in a row. What this accomplishes for
my ad is that it illustrates the contrast between all universities and BYU. These
logos are all equally sized, whereas, by contrast, the BYU logo is larger. For
the viewer’s eye, it reveals these universities are substandard and inferior to
BYU. This is largely achieved by minimizing their impact such as making these
logos smaller while placing them on the same rows. Second, I used the
continuation element, which is one of my favorite tools. Continuation is simple
way to get a point across in a powerful and yet not complex way. By using the
BYU logo, and then following it with the phrase, “Rise Above,” this creates a
word association with BYU. This establishes the idea that at BYU we rise above
all other universities. It also creates an influential message by using a
single line to convey this belief. It is crisp and clean in design.
