The first image is based on the similarity principle. All of the shapes are blue and we perceive them as belonging together. Perhaps the only exception is the circle because even though it is blue, the shape is different from the rest.
The second image is based on the closure principle. The drawing is missing many pieces. It is very incomplete. Yet, our minds fill in the lines and you can still tell it is an illustration of of a person.
