Semiotics assignment #1:

The signifier:
The bronze bull signifies a lot of things.  It signifies strength and power.  By looking at its facial expression you can see a sense of anger in its body language.  It is not standing but yet in a charging or attacking position.  And finally it is completely bronzed over and enormous.

The signified:
The bull is a warrior and it is here to fight against whatever is in front of it.  Also it is daunting in size which would place fear in its opponent’s eyes.  The bronze look can we a sign of wealth/ power or even durability/ strength.

Support it:

The bull on Wall Street; placed here because I believe that they atmosphere and what is perceived about Wall Street is that it is a harsh “battle-like” zone where only the tough survive.  It is not perceived that it is a friendly and playful place but yet a war like area.  Also it is a symbol of the economy of America; strong, brave and powerful.  I think it’s a perfect statue for Wall Street
