photo composition

These were photos recently taken from my trip to New York.

Point of View: I took this picture while at the 9/11 Memorial in New York trying to capture the moment as I was actually viewing it.  Depending on your point of view, there are many things you can see. Here a flower placed within a name carved into the monument, to me symbolizes hope. Hope that even though two buildings fell, a city still stands. And even though many were lost, they will never be forgotten.

Subject/Background- In this picture you have two very prominent subjects, the American Flag and myself. But, as you examine the photo is clear that I am the subject and the flag is the background. This is not because I am better than our nations flag, but because of my pointing at the camera and my distance to the camera. The flag is far from me and stationary, while I am close and making an interesting gesture.

Balance: In this picture you have me vertically and horizontally balanced in the center.  The picture is both symmetrically and asymmetrically balanced. A vertical symmetrical balance is found in me. If you were to cut me in half vertically, you'd have a balanced photo. A horizontal asymmetrical balance is found on the horizon line. The objects on the lower half of the photo, including my lower half, are balanced by the simplicity and clouds of the sky.
