picture composition

This first photo I took on the second level of the Wilk. I always am sitting or walking on the main floor so I thought it would be interesting to look at it from a different point of view. I was really surprised how different it looked from a new perspective, it made it much more interesting because the people seemed so illusive and far away from this angle compared to just people i'm bumping into when I'm down on that level.

I noticed this statue on campus today and thought it was a good example of balance. I really liked it because although it is not symmetrical on both sounds it feels very balanced. The parents are different heights and wearing different clothes, but the angles of their heads looking down at their child makes them feel very uniform and balanced. Their outside arms are also in similar positions that help contribute to balance. Another thing I noticed was the child is not looking to one parent more than the other, he is looking straight up to maintain balance and not make one side of the statue seem more important than the other.

This picture is the perfect example of subject/background. Although you only see a very small part of me, you can tell that me reading a book is the subject where as the beach and ocean are the background. This hierarchy is created by focusing in on my legs and my book and making the background appear far away and not as important.
