I recently opened my mission call and discovered that I am going to the France Paris mission in January. I'm so excited for the opportunity to preach the gospel to the people of northern France (and also Belgium and Luxembourg), but it's been a long time since I've taken a French class. Over the past few weeks, I've tried studying French out of an old textbook, but that's definitely not the most exciting way to pick the language up again. For this assignment, I decided to take the English version of "The Spirit of God" and translate it into French. My lines didn't rhyme very well but the syllables fit into the structure of the song, and I picked up a lot of new vocabulary while translating! I'm not a songwriter, but I had a lot of fun capturing the meaning of the English version and putting it into French. After I finished translating, I copied the lines onto a piece of paper and colored it to look like the French flag. It was a fun experience, and it helped me become more enthusiastic about working on my French!
*Sidenote: it turns out that there's an official French version of "The Spirit of God," but I didn't cheat--I just barely looked it up and found out it was there.
