This project is a combination of time observation and accidental art. This is a telephone pole on 700 E and 600 N that has been used to advertise events time and again. The staples, and strips of paper clinging to some of them, record the history of band posters, event flyers, and job advertisements that have been attached the pole over the years.
I found the contrast of the old rusted staples and strips of paper combined with the natural lines in the pole to be a beautiful and artistic expression of time. The pole was once a tree, but has been repurposed as a telephone pole. Even though it has been removed from nature, its lines show signs of what it once was.
There are old and new staples embedded in the pole. Many of them are warped and deformed. There are marks in the pole from staples that have fallen out or have been removed. Faded strips of paper cling to the memory of parties, concerts, and events gone by. Maybe we read some of those flyers. Maybe we went to those events. Maybe we met someone there who changed our history. Whatever happened, it's all recorded in the rusty staples and faded papers on this rotting wood. |

I love this concept! The writeup is great as well.
ReplyDeleteI want to climb it. I wouldn't have noticed how neat this was if it weren't for the angle. It made me think about how many tall and gigantic things surround us all the time that we don't even notice until we're looking up.
ReplyDeleteWe are all connected in a web, or as Pocahantas says, "We are all connected to each other in a hoop that never ends."
ReplyDeleteThis is great food for thought! There's a quote I love that says, "The universe is made of tiny stories," and I think this telephone pole really embodies that concept.
ReplyDeleteThis was definitely a cool way to combine both projects. One of the best ones on here for sure.
ReplyDeleteYes, great angle. Like I mentioned in class, your write-up was great. Excellent execution of this exercise
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your write up as well. Such a great take on this assignment.
ReplyDeleteI love how you combined two of the exercises. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously my favorite picture on the blog so far. Very creative how you combined the two exercises together. Great angle and eye for the picture as well.
