Accidental Art: Tattered Chimney

When I look out my bedroom window every morning, I don't see the sunrise or mountains, or any of Provo's other famous beauties... No, what I see is a little blue sky, the tall tree who's leaves litter my car while I sleep, and this old tattered chimney.
On lazy mornings I sometimes lie in bed and stare at the chimney. I imagine what it used to look like: it was probably "perfect"--just one color, nothing special, nothing interesting, nothing pretty, no personality.
I wonder what wore at the tattered chimney. What caused the paint to fade? What causes the concrete to disappear? What made the bricks to break and crack? Was it hot smoke? Fire? Wind? Rain? Snow?
I think it must have been wind, rain, and snow. It was built to contain fire and smoke after all. Then I think, 'shouldn't rock stand up better to water and wind than fire?' Water sustains where fire can only consume. But water destroys too, doesn't it? It's incredible how, with nature's help, a seemingly strong structure at once can become worn and tattered at last.

  1. Great ideas with this. I really like that you found so much out of something so ordinary.

  2. Nice. There is a lot of art out there that plays with this same idea of erosion and decay.
