Gestalt Theory

While I was on my mission I found this advertisement in a Brazilian magazine that perfectly demonstrates Gestalts's principle of similarity and of proximity. It's an advertisement that takes advantage of these principle to show just how many bottles of water a single bottle of oil can contaminate.

So I decided to take these two principles and incorporate them into my own unique design.  I decided to create a design using just Cosmo, the BYU logo and some lines.

In this design specifically I use the principle of proximity. Because four cosmos are all pointing at one BYU logo, we automatically perceive them as a unique group within the design. This is also a principle of similarity as well, since they are all the same type of Cosmo. Both these principles help us group the objects together.

The lines and feet going from one group of Cosmo's to the next is a principle of continuation, since this facilitates our eyes moving across the image.
