Closure Into the Mind

Right after class I found this movie poster in a display case and noticed the typography and lettering of the title. The letters "N", "H", "E", "M", "N", and "D" are all half letters or obscured in some way, yet it is easy to ready the title "Into The Mind." Below is a larger look at the graphic design of the letters.

I then made a few examples of Closure: two half circles creating a complete circle, 3 lines that don't completely connect that we see as a triangle, and a hidden rectangle behind a circle. Our minds separate the two shapes and know that there is really one long rectangle behind the circle; the two are distinct to us because our mind can complete the image- we close things off and place them in folders.

This could even reflect the human condition: wanting to know everything. We are such inquisitive and curious people and we demand to know as much as we can. That is why we get frustrated when someone else performs better on a test- they might know more than we do. So, in our minds and with our eyes, we create the rest of the image or form the rest of the shape in order to know more.
Or maybe we do this to feel more secure.
Maybe we won't ever know.
