I'm on a church history trip for my Doctrine and Covenants class and I actually found an example of gestalt right outside the sacred grove in Palmyra, New York. Of course there were tons of trees, but it was a funny coincidence that a lot of the trees outside the fence line of the sacred grove had lost most/all their leaves, and the trees within the fence limits of the sacred grove still had most of their leaves. The picture below demonstrates similarity that all the trees on the right side of the picture are barren, and the same general shape. It also demonstrates continuation from right to left, as the trees become leafier.
My own creation of a gestalt image uses the same principles mentioned above: similarity and continuation. The asterisks are all similar and even spaced apart the same amount, while the letters draw the attention since they are different from the asterisks. The concept of continuation prompts your eye to move down the page to read what the letters spell out. After learning about all the different properties of gestalt, it is easy to recognize them in almost everything.
