I decided to take a picture of the most exciting form of all modern design- the front of a cereal box. The two most prominent Gestalt Principles I recognize are, first, continuation, and, second, similarity. The main logo, Frosted Flakes, combines with the stripes to the right, giving the design a left-to-right motion. With the incline in the letters, this is perceived in our culture as an active, forward kind of look. I assume that's a result of our writing/reading left to right. Similarity is seen in how the different messages on the box are separate. "Good Source of VITAMIN D", "FROSTED FLAKES", and "THEY'RE GR-R-REAT!" are all treated as separate messages by readers because the typography in each message is unique and similar only to the letters used in that message.
The image I created was a logo for one of my favorite hobbies- Ultimate Frisbee. Some Gestalt principles include Figure/Ground which allows us to recognize the figure as somebody leaping to catch a disk. Similarity causes us to treat the text as one word instead of two words separated by the figure, and Closure causes us to interpret the figure as the letter "I" to complete the word.
