Finding Religion in Provo

When I considered what I wanted to do, I really thought about doing something that was at least to some degree foreign. I decided to find the beauty and truth of other churches in Provo. Of course the city was founded by 33 Mormon pioneer families in 1849. In the last 164 years the demographic has barely changed. Today roughly 98 percent of residents are Mormons. However, there are many denominations that remain strong and have increased membership in the area. Some are relatively new and others have been in Provo for over a century. As I documented what I saw and felt at each place of worship I sought to put it all into the picture.
The first church is a Catholic church that had a a massive cross that drew my attention to the heavens. I chose to center it to give a sense of anchor.
The second was a quaint episcopal church that has been in Provo for nearly a century. The structure was simple and I was intrigued by the red door, which is why I used a filter to emphasis it.

After looking through the images, this one really caught my eye. I followed the rule of thirds and thought that all the components combined created an interesting picture.
This image comes The Rock Church near Center St. I loved the raw elements of this one. The sign reads "One Church, One God JESUS CHRIST Worship Him Here".

This was in no way staged. I had originally intended on avoid LDS chapels because they are everywhere in Provo, but I just decided to stop on my way home, at the church where my wife and I attended our first few months of marriage. When I stepped out the car the sun was perfectly behind the chapel and combined with the glowing clouds created an incredible portrait of the illuminating nature that church plays in everyone's lives.
