Perception Assignment 1

Downtown Provo has more religious diversity than I expected. I saw three or four non-LDS churches within a few minutes of each other. I'm glad that diversity exists in a place where LDS culture and practices are so common. As I walked around, I was fascinated by the things that seemed to be out of place. In my second picture, a street sign lies face down in the corner of a parking lot. I found myself wondering why it was there, why it was displaced or fallen, and why none of the landowners had decided to move it. It reminded me that humans are not perfectly attentive to small details, and that we're susceptible to disorder. Close to a parking garage, I found a 15x10 patch of bush that seemed to be littered with questionable items: a cigarette pack, empty firework shells, and fast food wrappers. For some reason, unhealthy behaviors seemed to congregate in this one place. I also noticed a variety of contrasting colors that appeared on the brick walls of various buildings. In my last picture, it's almost as if three different painters added their signature touch to the same wall face.

  1. I like how your perception was geared towards things out of place. That was a cool outlook.
