Halloween from a Child's Perspective.

I love Halloween and have many fond memories celebrating it as a child. One of the most vivid memories that I have that I am not fond of is waiting around for what felt like hours while my parents took pictures of me in my costume. This year I decided to try and capture my nephews while they had the same experience. I tried to take pictures in the brief moments other people weren't taking pictures. I wanted to capture their more candid feelings of Halloween.
I loved this first picture. The boys had just finished carving their pumpkins and were so excited to put them out front of their house. This was taken on a different day than the others, but I think that it still fits in with the theme. I aligned them with one of the lines of third and thought that the pumpkins brought balance to the picture. I love how happy they look. They needed no posing, they actually ASKED to have their picture taken. I snapped this before my sister came out and they felt like they were taking a "real picture" that warranted putting feet down and giving a fake smile.

This picture was taken in the approximately 10 minute span Garret wore his Halloween costume. He had just put it on only moments ago, and was so excited to come and show everyone how he was "Jake the Pirate". After about 20 minutes of pictures however, he refused to wear the costume any more, and we changed him into his pajamas.

Brayden was VERY excited about being a cow for Halloween. He had made his mind up about this costume over 6 months ago after seeing a Chick-fil-A advertisement. All he wanted to do in pictures was act like a cow and mooo. Obviously, this is NOT what his mom or grandma wanted to see in their pictures however. Between them taking pictures he would lean side to side mooing and I loved it. THIS is what he wanted to have captured and remembered. This is the part of Halloween he was excited about. Mooing. He didn't care if his eyes were covered, or if he wasn't standing up straight. He was supposed to be a cow.

This is by far my favorite picture of the bunch. While I love the picture because I love these boys, I think that the composition is compelling, and their expressions are very telling of the different stages children go through when they have to take pictures for a long period of time. My favorite component of this picture is the Dylan (the child on the right hand side). He is looking down, clearly tired, his space socks are showing because he didn't want to wear his shoes any more, and  you can see the black from his Robin mask smeared all over his face. He is DONE and exhausted.

This final picture was taken after I left my nephews and went home to my house. After I drew on my brothers mustache, my mom took him out from to photograph him. Just like the little boys, my brother didn't really want to stand and smile like she wanted. I took this picture between my mom's shots when the boys were acting goofy and "in character". It makes me laugh. Even though Tyler and his friend are 10 or more years older than the babies, they basically had the same reaction to having Halloween pictures taken.
