Color and Type: Volume
At first I was going to do something that warned against blasting music too loud, but all my ideas felt too wordy. So I went with the opposite idea.
This is obviously a much more playful and silly message, so I didn't want to do something that looked too formal. I picked Nexa Rust as the font. I liked this one because it was perfect for display, but if you look closely it's not too clean-cut. The sides are a bit wobbly, sort of adding a slight movement to the words, I think. Apart from that, I made the text as big as I could within that space. I also incorporated the Apple volume logo to further emphasize the message.
One of the reasons why I placed it in between the headphones is because that's where your head would normally go. But when you're listening to music very loudly, it's sort of like that music becomes the only thing that occupies your mind--so I sort of hoped to allude to that concept in that the message is occupying the space of your head... (Don't know if that made sense?)
As for color, I stuck with three separate colors: red, gray, and white. I made the text red because I figured that it should be loud--which is the point of the message. Red really grabs your attention and it seems like a very loud color in my mind. It also contrasts very well with the white--it's not subtle at all. I wanted the headphones to provide context, but I didn't want the attention on them. For that reason, I kept them grey. They're still very noticeable, but hopefully they fade to the background a bit when placed next to the red. I tried to keep shades, tones, and tints at a minimal because I feel like those type of elements give depth and soften the message. I'm not going for a soft or even insightful message--I just want it to be loud and bold.
