Beach BUMS

With a quick trip to my home in California this weekend, I chose the topic of the ocean. Excuse the bare bum, I couldn't resist.

This moment was just too precious to pass up. Although I do not know these people, I had to capture this image because of the overall "cute" factor and because of what it said to me. I saw this as being a grandpa and his granddaughter, possibly enjoying her first steps into the ocean. Because of the girl's bare bottom and small stature, a certain amount of innocence is felt with her presence. I look at the grandpa and he seems to be more tense and concerned, which can metaphorically show his protectiveness over his granddaughter, who is stepping out into the crazy world. The little girl's stance shows that she is eager to get out into the water and has not a worry in the world. I thought this image also captured the overall feeling of what the beach is all about- relaxing, exploring the water, and enjoying time with the ones you love. This picture also uses the law of thirds, since the main subjects are placed off to the left side.

This seagull also captures the very essence of the beach. I have found that sea gulls have adapted to human habitats far better than any other bird species and have learned to coexist with them very well. This picture shows how the sea gull is not necessarily phased by my presence. But you can still see a sense of protectiveness, strength, and intelligence being exuded from the bird that makes it seem as if it "rules" the ocean. This picture uses the law of thirds, with the sea gull placed on the far left side.

This picture at the marina captures a different scene of the ocean, one that many people don't often think of when they think of the sea. All of these docked boats together create a beautiful picture to me, one that shows the unity of many peoples' love of sailing. They also represent a sense of exploration and excitement.

I loved this simple picture of the beach because of the contrast of the sky versus the sand and water. I sky alone paints a magnificent picture with the unique, harsh cloud formations and then the waves create a sense of ease and flow. All together, this picture shows the beauty of God's creations, whether it's the land, sea, or sky, and shows what a magnificent world we live in.

These sea lions were wildly entertaining and amusing. In this picture, you can get a feel for the animal kingdom and how it works. In this image, you can see the sea lion farthest to the left on the platform acting as sort of a guard to the rest of the sea lions. His upright stature shows how he was being very protective over the platform and the sea lions already on it. The sea lions behind him seem disturbed by something, since most of them are looking around, possibly at an intruder.  he one sea lion in the water is looking on at the others possibly with jealously; sad that he cannot get a spot on the platform. All the while this is happening, the sea lion laying on the railing is completely checked out and just enjoying his rest. I found it funny that this image did such a good job of capturing the emotions going on here, even though they are animals.
