I don't like Provo. I never have. But, I go to school here, and made a choice two years ago to live here. So today is about perspective. If I didn't have the perspective and understanding that there are fabulous places in the world, and not so fabulous places in the world, I would constantly compare when there is simply no comparison. I wouldn't be able to enjoy the simple things in life, and I would probably lose my mind (granted I sometimes do). Provo is no D.C. or beach off the crystal coast of North Carolina, or any East coast life I am accustomed to, but with the right perspective, I can roam center street with no expectations. And who knows, maybe leave pleasantly surprised.
Here's what I found: a little piece of home! This recreation of the Washington Monument really did light up my heart in the cheesiest way. It's no Washington Monument, but it made me smile, and there's something to be said about that. I also discovered the cutest little parks with a view that, although isn't ideal, is so beautiful in its own way; I rarely take time to sit and appreciate the mountains that surround me everyday. Despite my inner negative Nancy who sometimes won't shut up, there is no denying the power and beauty that lies in all forms of nature.
Who knew Provo tasted so good?! I love food. I especially love good food. And Provo definitely has its share of it. Center Street is typically not my scene but, Italian food, shaved ice, and carnival rides, definitely are.
So here's the lesson I taught myself and hopefully someone else: appreciate your surroundings. Look for the good in life. If necessary, swallow your pride. And always, always, always, maintain perspective.
