Walking around dowtown Provo at night, I didn't feel the safest. Usually in Provo things feel like a safe little quiet town where not a lot happens. Being in dowtown Provo sort of felt like a whole other world. It was pretty late and there were still lots of people out and business open, which isn't something you usually see after 9pm in Provo. It also didn't feel very safe because you could see all the run down areas of town and there was lots of graffiti and homeless people everywhere. The graffiti was cool! I love graffiti, but it made Provo seem a little less appealing. Something else I noticed about Provo that I hadn't before was all the sprinklers watering the street and flooding the planters. This kind of bothered me a little because being from a desert that is constantly in a drought, I didn't like that all that water was being wasted. They could be saving the water and sending it to those places that need it. I think Downtown Provo sort of gives you all of Provo in one place. There are the super nice places right next to the not so nice places and even sometimes mixed in to them. You definitely get this from the picture directly above this where you can see the temple from an old, sketchy alley way. You also have all the thriving businesses, like Nu Skin, mixed in with the small town businesses, like Bruges, which also is what Provo is all about. Everyone is trying to make it big through multi-level marketing or trying to start the next big business. There is a lot of the small town appeal mixed in with the big city living in downtown Provo. Seeing this side of Provo kind of made me realize that there is more to Provo than just the small mormon town that I thought it was.
