What
is a hipster? Whilst walking the streets of center street Provo, an older
adult such as my mom or dad may have been confused at seeing sights such as a
washing machine as a fountain being displayed as the center piece of a store. To many this may seem odd, or outrageous, but it seems, at least in Provo, that this is the normal. It is so normal that is makes you ask yourself, why don't I have a washing machine fountain in my front yard?
However,
to the "hipster" eye, this is a novelty. So what does it mean to be
hipster? Does it mean that you look at things that are old that are so weird
they are cool? After walking from bundling to building I noticed more of these
hipster novelties such as a kids play horse in the back of a restaurant just
for decoration, or a store that recycled old clothes from my grandmothers time.
And the most interesting part was that the people inside this store, trying on
my grandmas old dress, were smitten with their own appearance.
Center
street in Provo is not as full of shade shirts, white shirts and ties, and clean-cut
boys as you may think. From an outsider’s perspective, center street looks very
strange. However to the bearded, man bun, velvet dress wearing people, Provo
"hipster" street, is home.
