Composition Photography

Balance
I went to Salt Lake with my friend Michelle this weekend and we visited the Salt Lake City Public Library. This photo was taken on the top of the building on a lookout. I tried to show balance in this photo by placing her in the left part of the frame, and having her gaze draw the viewers line of sight across to the right side of the photo. This allows the shot to feel balanced. Michelle is pointing the flow of the photo to the right, toward the buildings even though she is placed on the left of the frame.

 Point of View
I own a clothing shop with my friend and we hand-embroider baseball caps and sell them. This is one of my hats. I tried to show point of view in this photo by placing the avocado hat with the avocados to denote that this hat is also for sale with the other avocados. The point of view is supposed to be that of the consumer, looking for an 'avocado' to buy.

Subject Background
I tried to show subject background in this shot by placing the subject in the center of the frame, and by doing so have her seemingly surrounded by the mountains and city skyline. The background is also slightly out of focus, to give emphasis on Michelle, showing that she is in the city, she is part of it, but she is the subject of the photo. Even though there is a lot going on in the background, by keeping her in the center of the frame, the emphasis stays on her and the background adds to that.
