Photography Composition - Alex D

All of these pictures were shot and edited with iPhone 6s

Point of View

I saw this red door and my instinct pushed me to want to take a picture from the front of the door, but I thought that getting a side/diagonal view would be cooler.  I love that her red shirt brings out the red in the door and the shadow brings out the black in her dress.

Subject Background

I saw this background as me and my wife were walking in downtown Salt lake.  I originally shot in color, but I changed the image to black and white and then added a sepia filter to bring out the black around the window shutters.  I then had my wife stand in front of it to bring the black out more in her dress, the window shutters and the sign above the store windows.

Balance

I thought that this image was super cool.  I normally would have never thought to stop and take a photo of a staircase, but this one stood out to me so I stopped and shot it really quick. Without the staircase, this photo would be just a photo of an apartment building, but the staircase gives it more depth and a nicer feel with the background.
