Perception #1: Downtown Provo by Samantha Clark

I really liked this assignment because it gave me the opportunity to walk around downtown Provo and observe things I normally wouldn't even pay attention to. Something I thought about while taking pictures was, "Am I the only person who has never noticed this?" There are so many intricate details on all of the buildings! For example, on the tall red building there are wreaths engraved on every side. I wonder why architects decided to include this--does it have a purpose or did they just like the design? Throughout my excursion to downtown, I used the five senses. For example, when I walked down random allies I could smell trash, and hear the rustling of tumbleweeds rolling around. On the other hand, when I walked down Center Street I noticed polished, clean (for the most part) buildings trying to lure customers in. This assignment really helped me to use my own knowledge to become aware of all of the unique characteristics that make up downtown Provo.

Basketball hoop with Pepsi-Cola sign and red and green Christmas lights. I wonder who plays here?

Gold engraved wreaths on the side of tall building on Center Street.

Unknown blue object sitting in front of old school pharmacy.

Hot pink wall surrounded by trash and garbage cans with #bikeprovo.

Blue bicycles hung on various parking signs along Center Street.
