Yellow is a happy color, but I wanted to make a contrast with black and/or grey to really emphasize the brightness of the color. What I ended up with was a blast from the past; my color scheme was basically the Ugly Duckling story.
I took a darker yellow color and tinted it with each duckling, along with taking out some of the orangey hue. The beaks required the same effect. To find the right color for the "ugly" duckling, I had to balance between white and black and tried to make sure no other colors were added.
I think these colors make each other stand out while accentuate their own attributes.
