Gestalt Theory
First, this image contains the Gestalt Principle of Closure. There are only images of glasses and a beard, but the two are placed in the proper location so that your brain still completes the overall image of a face / head even though the hair, eyes, nose, ears, mouth, etc. are all missing. The second principle that is being implemented is Continuation. This is seen where the letters "C" and "L" are placed inline with the glasses that look like two "O"s to make a continuous word of "COOL". This has the effect of balancing out the vertical image with a horizontal image that make the reader look from left to right.
