This simplistic piece is most noticeably using the Gestalt principles of continuation and closure. As you read the text from left to right your eye seems to follow the "trail" left behind by the star, this is the continuation principle encouraging you to look through the object. The second principle being used here is closure. Although there are white spaces throughout the letters, your eye (due to the brain) is able to easily decipher what the text says.
