Semiotics 1

The signifier (or image) is the statue of the bull. This bull, located near Wall Street, signifies power and more recently aggression. This is supported by the power (especially money) held by Wall Street businessmen. The statue is not of a peaceful or sleeping bull; it depicts a charging bull, which is associated with power and aggression. People working on Wall Street are often seen as cutthroat--doing whatever necessary to get ahead or succeed in their careers, which is a prime example of aggression. I think this statute is very well placed and sends a strong message.
