Semiotics One

The statue on Wall Street has become something more than just a work of art.  Just as a signifier, the statue is of a male bull charging.  It looks like it’s made out of solid brass and incredibly dense.  The bull has been made to look very lean and muscular; there are no signs of fat on the bull.

All of these elements combine into a bull that looks fierce and strong.  This has become a symbol for the people who work on Wall Street.  The bull signifies power and authority, something also attributed to the people who make large amounts of money on Wall Street.  The bull also has negativity attributed to it.  People think of greed, manipulation and corruption when they see the bull as well.  They sometimes see the bull as a symbol of what is wrong with the economy.
